Weelkes: Gentleman Extraordinary
Anthems, Services and Instrumental Music by Thomas Weelkes
(Resonus, 2023)
Celebrated as one of the finest Tudor composers, Thomas Weelkes served as organist and choirmaster at Winchester College and Chichester Cathedral and although famed for his madrigals, wrote more Anglican services than any other major composer of the me. Performed by the professional Irish vocal ensemble Resurgam with The English Corne & Sackbut Ensemble, this album celebrates the sacred music from this prolific composer in Weelkes’ 400th anniversary year

Rachel Stott: Odysseus and the Sorceress
(Omnibus Classics, 2020)
Odysseus and the Sorceress is a retelling of stories from Homer’s Odyssey in words and music by English composer Rachel Stott. Featuring virtuosic violin and viola playing from period instrument specialists Catherine Martin and John Crockatt, beautifully accompanied by theorbist Alex McCartney and The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble, the instrumental tracks illustrate Odysseus’s adventures as he crosses the Mediterranean in search of his homeland. Music for Windy Instruments: Sounds from the Court of James I
(Resonus, 2018)
This recital disc coincided with our 25th anniversary year and focussed on the diverse music within the partbooks belonging to the wind players to King James I. Known as Fitzwilliam 734, the partbooks contain music by famous foreign composers of the day (Lassus, Vecchi, Marenzio) alongside English and London-based foreign composers writing in the latest English styles. Monteverdi: The Other Vespers

Our latest recording with I Fagiolini focussed on the mature Monteverdi's Vespers psalms music from Selva Morale e Spirituale. It also included luscious cornetto diminutions by Bovicelli and a grand 8-part sonata by Usper.

This follow-up to the Striggio 40-part Mass is also on a grand scale. Robert Hollingworth directs poly-choral Vespers music by Viadana, Monteverdi and Gabrieli in a rich mixture of voices and instruments. Byrd: The Great Service in the Chapel Royal
(2012, Chaconne)
William Byrd's sacred masterpiece is recorded for the first time using cornetts and sackbuts alongside voices, a combination of sounds typical of the time. Musica Contexta's use of original pronunciation also helps transport the listener back to  the sound-world of Elizabethan England.
